Jackie Robinson was born on January 31, 1919 in Cairo Georgia, he was the youngest of five siblings. He moved to Pasadena, California in 1920 with his mother. Robinson excelled in five different sports at Muir High School and played baseball, basketball, and football at UCLA. He decided to drop out of college because a degree and sports will not gurantee a future for an African-American man. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and served as a second lieutenant from 1942 - 1944. In 1945, he signed as the new Kansas City Monarchs´ shortstop. He was the first African-American to make his way from the negro baseball league to the ¨white league¨ in 1946 when he signed with the Brooklyn Dodgers.
